~ New Books ~

I was shopping =D And I shopped a lot this month. My bookshelf is bursting, I need a new one badly (and more space...). I am still missing three books, that I ordered on Amazon - but I should get those next week as well, hopefully!

As you can see, I now got the Divergent box set by Veronica Roth. I already read those books on the Kindle, but when I saw the bookset in the bookstore and I stared at it for 5 minutes, considering if they would look good in my shelf, my boyfriend decided to buy it for me <3.

Another purchase that makes me really happy is the rest of the Covenant series by Jennnifer L. Armentrout- Sentinel, Elixir and Daimon. Apollyon is in my shelf since last year, but I still didn't manage reading it. So I think i will have a Covenant marathon soon. Review to Deity can bei found here.

The most recent purchase from the bookstore was actually today. They had A Dance with Dragons for really cheap moneys, so I simply had to get it. Especially as I am reading book 4 at the moment and also following season 4 on TV.

My beloved Kindle also got some new food!

I bought After Dawn, the third book of the Into the Shadows Trilogy (Review of book 1 and book 2) and I am currently reading it, slowly due to also being occupied with A Feast for Crows (Game of Thrones takes ages to read...).

Another Kindle book I wanted since at least a year is Hounded, part one of the Iron Druid Chronicles. Let's see what this druid got in store for me. I am really really curious about this.

World After...The follow up book to Angelfall, also something I have been wanting to buy since a while. Book one was a really refreshing (or should I say monstrous) read - one simply must know what is going to happen now.

Many thanks to Martina Riemer who gave me a review version of her debut book Glasgow Rain. I have been sceptic about this book as I don't like reading in German, but now I am kind of hyped about it. It is next on my list to read ;D You can find more information about Martina Riemer on her blog.

A title that really makes me laugh (sorry to Jennnifer L. Armentrout, I love your writings). I found White Hot Kiss by chance and I also took the chance to read it. I have no idea whatsoever what it is about. The title alone sounds like something I usually wouldn't read, but hey, it's the amazing Ms. Armentrout we are talking about here. Must give it a shot, aye?

And last I caught two freebies for the Kindle. Dangerous, part 1 of the Dangerous series (so so so dangerous~ *sing* no wait, it was scandalous...nvm) and Mindspeak, which sounds really interesting. I have no idea when I will manage to read those books, but they are on the Kindle, so eventually they will become victim of my "lunch-break-reads".

I will have wonderful reading hours with all this precious little items and latest at the end of May I shall eat books again. At the moment I have to focus a bit on my studies, otherwise my exams won't look that nice.

Review
Must read book 3. Must read book 3.

I really really really liked this book. The characters developed so nicely, the story unwound in an interesting way. But...IT DOESNT HAVE ENOUGH PAGES D: It was over too quick, way too quick. It was like..let's do this, and now this and then this and then we are done reading this. I would have loved more detail. More detail about training, more detail about those cool monks =D More detail about the Resistance group Jason is in, more detail about the camp. Just...more!

I like Paivi. She is a stand-up heroine. She doesn't bother herself with girlish minority crap, because there is no time for that now in this chaos. I think that is very authentic. Also that she does her decisions even though she doesn't like them and they might destroy her - this sounds clichée, but with Paivi this seems real. She uses her brain before making up her mind about something (or her visions).

I am curious about the other characters. Torsten already got a bigger role during this book. What about the rest? I am really curious about Christian. I wonder what his part will be in all this. Only the supporting good friend or is he going to go badass as well at some point and kick the shit out of the ATC?

4 stars, even though I loved it. But it was simply too short.

Description:
Paivi Anderson has it all - friends, a spot on the varsity basketball team, wonderful parents, and quite possibly, her first boyfriend. It was everything a freshman in high school could ask for. Her perfect life begins to crumble when she discovers her name on a list distributed by a power-hungry presidential candidate. How could anyone think of Paivi as an Enemy of the State? Could it be because of her special powers? No one was supposed to know about them, but the mysterious messages in her tater tots say otherwise. In Into the Shadows, Paivi quickly learns who her friends are and is forced into a reality she didn’t see coming.

Review:
This was a surprisingly good read. It started out rather slow for me, I was very skeptic. The maincharacter Paivi just seemed like a little bitchy girl. But the characters grew during the book. I assume it is played out in the near future or maybe in our time. It's a bit hard to tell, because this information was not given during the story. But that leaves space for imagination. I personally decided for me it is a near future that didn't go so well.
The story is like a whole Nazi experience all over. There are a few people with special abilities such as mind reading, visions or similar. And one power hungry dude decides to mess with those people. He takes away their rights, he limits them, he humiliates them in public by making them wear glowing EOS symbols and marking their houses with them.
I will surely read the second book, hoping the characters will develop more.
4,5 stars from me because of the slow start.

Deity

by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Book 3 in the Covenant series

Description:

Alexandria is about to hit her eighteenth birthday, meaning her Awakening is coming closer. But there is this forgotten order that wants her dead. Furthermore there is this little death she committed in the Catskills. IF that comes out, both her and Aiden are history.

To make things even worse, Seth adds up to her troubles. Every time they spend training and he comes too close to her, she receives another mark of the Apollyon. Seems her Awakening is a bit ahead of time.
Short before her birthday everything goes to hell. Love of fate? The one that protects her or the one that has been lying to her since this whole mess started? Even the gods got enough of everything and they start to release their power on the Hematoi and on humanity. Destruction is coming.

Review:
Holy fucking Daimon babies! (as Ms. Andros likes to say)
I had the same problem as with book 1 and 2 of this series. A very slow start. I don't know what it is, but I have a really hard time working myself through the first 100 or so pages. After that the book usually catches me. And I honestly have to consider getting myself a rubber knife, so I can fake stab someone after finishing the books. Armentrout - the master of cliffhangers of epic proportions. I hate it - and love it.
The story around Alex went into total mayhem. And as if it wasn't enough, she decided to get enemies among the gods as well. Isn't that pleasant ^_^ I am really curious on how it will continue. This book held quite a twist for me. I kind of liked Seth more than Aiden, but honestly...how sick is that dude? I hope he gets some braincells back soon...
In total, the book was really good again. Why only 4 stars? Because the hard time I had (again) to force myself through the beginning.

The suicide game

by Andy Rausch

Description:
There is 'noir', and there is 'noir' that is so slick and sly that even Elmore Leonard might be tempted to leap out of bed and look to his laurels.

When five bored rich kids bet each other as to who will be the first to drive an innocent victim of their choice to death, little do they realise that one of those they randomly select in a shopping mall is the Mafia's top West Coast hitman.

How would they know? He is black and without a single fluid ounce of Italian blood in his veins, albeit with gallons of the stuff on his hands.

This hitman may be sad, he may even be ready to die, but he isn't exactly suicidal – more homicidal, definitely more homicidal, you might say.

And he moves at the center of a plot containing a cast of characters which includes Mafia bosses, murderous priests, seedy movie directors, a gay sex-line operator and credulous starlets that brings a wry smile to your face every time a new twist is revealed.

Which is a lot of smiling, and a lot of dying.

Review:
It was a good idea, it was a nice read, but it was a very misleading title.

Yes the suicide game was mentioned once or twice but in total it got like...I don't know for sure anymore...one to three chapters. They plan it, they pick targets, and that's about it.

In general this book is about a few people and their separate stories. Some of which are interesting (I really liked Orlandos story), some of which I had to force myself through (the Bert Edmunds stuff didn't catch me at all). In the end all those stories are connected and meet. But a suicide game? There was none. Just a few rich spoiled teenage boys that had the idea to do so.

It was a nice read however, but still a bit disappointing due to the misleading title. Thus only 3 stars.
